Mom, this post is for you, because you bought me the Cook’s Illustrated subscription.
All I can say to the world in general is: go buy yourself some vanilla beans from Amazon. I know the article in CI recommends the McCormick’s $8.99 bottle (2 beans!), but you can get it a whole lot cheaper in bulk. And look at the speckly goodness in that creamy scoop! I don’t even like vanilla ice cream on its own but this recipe changed my mind. Thanks Mom for the magazine! The recipe is a real keeper.
The Blue Bowl
by Blanche Bane Kuder
All day I did the little things,
The little things that do not show;
I brought the kindling for the fire
I set the candles in a row,
I filled a bowl with marigolds,
The shallow bowl you love the best—
And made the house a pleasant place
Where weariness might take its rest.
The hours sped on, my eagar feet
Could not keep pace with my desire.
So much to do, so little time!
I could not let my body tire;
Yet, when the coming of the night
Blotted the garden from my sight,
And on the narrow, graveled walks
Between the guarding flower stalks
I heard your step: I was not through
With services I meant for you.
You came into the quiet room
That glowed enchanted with the bloom
Of yellow flame. I saw your face,
Illumined by the firelit space,
Slowly grow still and comforted—
“It’s good to be at home,” you said.
I loved browsing the jewelry on Anthropology’s website, although I did not love the prices! This Library Stack Necklace was a mere $168 . . . but the inspiration was priceless.
Now my version is up for sale in my shop, for sale for a comparative song!
Business has been great today here at The Ring and the Lion! Four of the little treasures found their ways to Middle-Earth-ish homes. Here’s a bunch of the new crafts that I’m working on putting out today.
